is not my favorite place in Mexico. It has become overdeveloped. Lots of large hotel complexes up and down the coast. Difficult to access the beach. Tulum is all tore up with roads and new developments. Playa del Carmen feels like Las Vegas. It's probably nice if you stay in one of the resorts. Or get away from the northeast coast. When Sheri and I return next week, we'll spend some time at a resort. That should be relaxing.
I escaped Tulum and headed inland to a nice town, Valladolid. Stayed at a funky eco-camping place with a Volkswagen Bug theme. People rent old ones to sleep in. Nice and peaceful and nice owner. Next day I went for a refreshing swim in a cenote, then visited Casa de los Venados, a private colonial home owned by an American couple with a very large collection of Mexican folk art. I read about this place several years ago and always wanted to visit. Beautiful. Sheri and I have a ways to go to catch up. Can't quite afford what they have. But our collection of folk art is from around the world and brings us many fond memories.
Tonight I am flying home. Looking forward to seeing my beautiful wife, my precious grandson, and our wonderful kids. And looking forward to celebrating mom's birthday and spending time with famiily. And celebrating the life of Sheri's mom with our annual lefse party.
Happy Birthday Mom!
Love the bench with Rivera and Kahlo and the upside down bug bed! See you soon.
