I love Oaxaca. The culture, the people, the food, the arts, the music, the parades after weddings, the markets, the architecture, the landscapes, the forests. Beautiful. Peaceful. Sheri and I were here last November and December for three weeks to take Spanish lessons and fell in love with this place. This is my fourth visit. I arrived on Saturday and walked around enjoying the atmosphere, then went to our favorite restaurant, Las Quince Letras, for my favorite dish of three moles. Spent the first night parked near a park, but unfortunately, it was across the street from a bar that played loud live music until 1 am, then contuinued to play music the rest of the night until morning. I got maybe three hours of sleep. Got up early and went to the Sunday market at Tlacolula, then to Hierva el Agua, a fascinating set of pristine springs and travertine rock formations that look like frozen waterfalls. Went for a hot hike, then a cool deep in the springs. I found a nice campground at the house of a German couple just outside of Santa Maria del Tule, about 30 minutes from Oaxaca city. Have been here since. Such a peaceful place. Between three and six other overlanders camping here, mostly German, and very friendly and interesting. Each morning I have been going to Spanish class for three hours, then spending the afternoon wandering around el Centro or one day heading out into the surrounding pueblas to explore. Went to Monte Alban, but it was closed due to a protest by vendors, so went to a nearby archeaological site, Aztompa, which was very nice, although much smaller, but fewer people and interesting (including the largest ball court in this part of Mexico). Also visited El Tule, the huge Mexican cypress tree in the pueblo near the campground. All and all, a wonderful week.

Fabtastic photos. Love the butcher stall with hanging heads. I REALLY want to go to Oaxaca. Some day! The plate of 3 mole makes my mouth water. :-)
