Hank and I survived La Trampolina de la Muerte - Colombia's "Death Road"

Leaving San Agustin I headed back across the Andes on what is supposedly Colombia's deadliest road. Going from Mocoa to Sibundoy then on to Pasto, it is a windy, mostly single-laned route with numerous drop-offs and spectacular scenery. This part of Colombia just north of Ecuador is where the Andes split into three branches - the east, central, and west branches. From here rivers run three directions - east to the Amazon, west to the Pacific, and north to the Caribbean Sea.

The road is challenging but not too bad. The biggest challenge was meeting a large truck coming the other direction, then having to back up to a wide spot in the road to let them pass. It was also quite foggy in places. It was slow going, but beautiful. Made it over the mountains and camped at the home of a nice family just outside of Pasto (called Villa Margarita).
