Everytime we come home, we are reminded how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful corner of the world. This is Sheri. Brad is busy packing and planning to fly back to Cusco, Peru, tomorrow, so I thought I would write this blog entry.
We flew out of Cusco, Peru, on June 29th, for three flights including overnight. We arrived in Corvallis just in time to go eat at one of our favorite restaurants in Corvallis, Squirrels! We were excited because Zach and Jenna were going to be in the Seattle area to visit grandparents, but they weren't feeling well and had to cancel. We drove up to see Sharon (Brad's mom) in Olympia. It was great to see her. She is adjusting well to her assisted living group home, and doing well for 90. We were able to take her out to eat at her favorite restaurant one day when we visited.
We were able to spend a few days with Matt and his girlfriend, Ashley. They flew out on July 4th. We were excited to finally get to meet her. She is a kind and fun person. We had a great time hanging out together with Henry and Randy, wine tasting, and going out to eat. I made aebskivers (a tradition in our famiy) for them for breakfast. A great visit and we look forward to spending more time with them soon.
Kirsten and Randy went to the St. Paul Rodeo with friends, and we were able to spend time with Henry. We enjoyed seeing their family and taking care of Henry while Kirsten and Randy worked. We had him at our house numerous times. Highlights of our time include running through the water park, eating pizza, BBQing in the backyard, going to Henry's best friend Indi's house for her 3rd birthday, driving to Newport (Brad took Henry to the beach and out to lunch for chowder while I had my hair done and lunch with a friend), practicing the guitar, and reading. Grandpa Brad made a water park in our backyard for Henry. They went to the store and bought a slip-and-slide and Brad set up a sprinkler to run through also. Henry loves water activities.
We were also able to visit my dad and Jacque a couple of times including celebrating his birthday. My brother, Troy, his wife (Katy) and daughter (Terra) drove over for lunch, as well as Kirsten and Henry (Randy had to work). Our two sons, and Troy's two sons all live out-of-state so they weren't able to be there. It was a nice lunch with banana cream pie for dessert. I will be spending more time with them in July/August.
We drove up and spent the night at Janet and John's house (Brad's sister) and had fresh crab from the bay at Camano Island. Janet, is running for State Senator in Washington. The next day we attended a campaign picnic. It is impressive to see how Janet works to address issues with her constituents. We're proud of her.
We were also able to visit with friends and neighbors while home and eat at some of our favorite restaurants in our community.
The time has gone by so fast. It's nice to be home. I'm going to stay home for awhile, then meet Brad in Chile to go skiing. I'll spend time with our parents, family, friends and spend time with Kirsten, Randy and Henry, including taking care of Henry some while his parents are working.
