Back to the coast, we spent the night at probably one of the most famous places for surfers called El Tunco near La Libertad. Lots of foreigners and somewhat of a party scene, but a nice beach and some nice restaurants (including lobster). The coastline is quite beautiful and it seems that there are many places with nice surf breaks for beginners to experts. I wish I could try surfing again, but I can barely get up off the floor easily after my stroke, bad knees, new hip, and, especially, my back. Oh well. Next day we headed down the coast to the east to some of the most beautiful coastline (and much fewer people) and probably my favorite campsite so far. We headed to a town called El Cuco. When we arrived we found out that there was an international surf competition happening and all hotels were booked. We parked to watch the surf competiton. The parking area belonged to a beautiful hotel out on a point (Paradise Surf Hotel). We walked out to the hotel to ask if they had rooms (I suspected not), and I asked the manager if we could park down by the gate. He was a very nice guy. He said yes, so we spent the night at a beautiful location overlooking the coast. Had a great dinner (shrimp for Sheri, paella for me) at the hotel restaurant and watched the sunset. I got up before sunrise the next morning, and the surfing competiton was starting at 6 am, so I watched some of the excellent surfers before it was time to leave. On to Nicaragua.
